If your engraver doesn't appear in Lùmen's device list, the problem is almost always before Lùmen — at the USB connection itself. When macOS doesn't see the controller as a serial device, there's nothing the app can connect to, so the device picker stays empty.
Here's how to track it down, starting with the most common cause on Macs.
Some engraver controllers — the Creality Falcon 10W is a known example — leave out a small resistor that Apple's USB-C ports require to recognise a connected device. Plugged directly into a MacBook's USB-C port, the controller simply never shows up: macOS never creates a serial port for it, so Lùmen has nothing to list.
The fix: connect the engraver through a powered USB hub (or a good USB-A → USB-C adapter/hub). A decent hub provides the missing signalling, and the engraver is usually detected the instant you plug it in — both by macOS and by Lùmen. One user solved this with a 4-port Anker USB hub: the engraver was recognised immediately.
This is a hardware/electrical issue on the controller board, not a fault of Lùmen or of your data cable. It affects other budget controllers too, not only the Falcon.

Once macOS sees the controller, it appears in Lùmen's device list (typically as a usbserial / usbmodem entry). Select it, press Connect, and Lùmen reads the machine's configuration automatically — you'll see the connection go active and the work area populate. From there you're ready to home, set your origin, and run a job.
